When too much becomes a bad thing !
Moss | Sunday, March 7 2004 Anything that you eat or drink in large doses can do harm to your body. One glass of wine and you’re fine, but one bottle of wine and you are sent to the emergency room with alcohol poisoning. Frozen carrots are quite healthy for you, but as soon as you put those carrots in a pan, add brown sugar and butter, they become almost as unhealthy as eating a candy bar. In fact, even one of the fundamental necessities in life, water, can kill you in large doses. Now if only professional athletes, and Martha Stewart could learn from those facts. Yes, at first Michael Jackson was fun and entertaining. Now he is dull and just plain weird. When you think you have said it all and done it all, stop! Athletes need not try to invent more ways to express themselves. Terrell Owens, Kobe, and Martha Stewart need to learn when too much is a very bad thing.
Terrell Owens
Remember when Terrell Owens was gliding across the back of the end zone against the Packers? Remember when Steve Young dropped back and threw that bullet of a pass? Remember when Owens actually caught the ball and then became a San Francisco hero? That catch to beat the Packer propelled him to legend status. He was on top the world, but then that thing we like to call a mouth started talking, and talking, and talking. He became unhappy with management and the coaches. Unhappy with his quarterback, and I wouldn’t be surprised if he became unhappy with his dog. Assuming he has one, but maybe the dog ran away to Jeff Garcia’s house.
Owens wanted out of the bay, and low and behold he got his wish. Oh but wait a minute, he didn’t want to go to the Ravens. No, a team with an unworldly defense, and young, rising quarterback doesn’t suit his personal needs. He wants to go to Philadelphia where McNabb has the reins behinds center. However, I’m not so sure Owens is really a brilliant person for wanting to go to Philadelphia. I’m sure he doesn’t like getting booed and well that is what is going to happen. The fans that booed Michael Irvin when he was laid out on the field won’t hesitate to boo the loud mouthed Owens. Not to mention the team that booed their own star QB on draft day, and also chanted for A.J. Feely to start. Terrell I have some good advice for you. Quit complaining about contracts and go and suit up for the Ravens. Remember no matter where you play you will get paid more money than you deserve, and get more publicity than even you can handle.
Kobe Bryant
At the age of nineteen he made his first all-star appearance. He was the very likable sixth man for the Lakers, and heralded as the next coming of Michael Jordan. With Shaq at his side they garnered three championships and together ruled the basketball world. With all that fame and success at such a young age you would think Kobe would be the happiest man on earth. John Stockton went nearly two decades in the NBA without a ring and I hardly ever heard him complain. Yet Kobe is not so happy. He and Shaq feud like brothers, and are always fighting for the supreme spot on the team. Of course we all know who wins that fight. That leaves Kobe on the outside looking in, and searching for a new team.
Kobe may be searching for that new team, but we must not forget that he has more important things to tend to. There’s that trial in Colorado for one, and also the fact that he is still saying I’m sorry to his wife. Kobe I know you are innocent until proven guilty, and I know you are probably trying to live life normally. However, don’t you think that you should keep your mouth shut for a while, and auction off your services a little more quietly. It would be a shame if someone spent millions of dollars on you this off-season, just to see you get sent to prison. The Lakers are you team at the moment Kobe and you should be trying to do everything in your power to help that team win. So sit back on your couch, get that shoulder healed, and keep your mouth closed.
Martha Stewart
Martha, Martha, Martha oh what are we going to do with you now? You used to be so lovable, well ok, so likable. Your empire flourished, and you became a household name. No pun intended. You cooked with us, cleaned with us, and traveled with us. However, you failed to obey the rules like the rest of us. You tried to fight the law, but the law won. I’m sure many NFL wide receivers feel your pain. Now you are headed towards prison or at least we hope you are heading to prison. No matter what you say, or how you say it, you are a criminal. Martha, you are not immune to the long arm of justice, and must face it like the rest of the world.
Martha I may be angry with you for reasons that are not your fault. Well actually they are your fault because if you wouldn’t have broken the law then I wouldn’t be so angry. I am angry because the last few days all anyone has talked about is you. Your case, at least for a few days, has overshadowed much more important issues in this world. You ask for our support, yet why should we support a convicted criminal? I would much rather support our troops overseas, or support a person who is stricken with disease. Again I say, as with the others, keep your mouth shut. Let your lawyers do the talking, and maybe in prison you can teach a few inmates how to cook a nice plate of pasta.
Not in my top three, but deserving dishonorable mention are A-Rod, the Red Sox, the Yankees, and Barry Bonds. All you need to remember is that too much is always a bad thing. Maybe celebrities suffer from too much fame and money. Money and fame has gotten to their heads and they are out of touch with reality. They complain when things don’t go their way, and yet they fail to realize that what they are complaining about is in sequential compared to the problems the real world faces. When you have done everything you can possibly do, earned all the money you can possibly earn, and said all there is to say, don’t do anything more. Save us from your behavior, and for the love of God save us from your whining.
